Why Getting Involved In High School Pays Off

It’s no secret that high school can be tough. From schoolwork to social pressures, there’s a lot for teens to juggle. With so much on their plate, it’s easy for students to get overwhelmed and disengaged. However, studies have shown that getting involved in high school activities can have a number of benefits. From reducing stress levels to improving grades, read on to learn more about why getting involved in high school pays off.

Improves Grades

In addition to reducing stress levels, involvement in high school activities can also lead to better grades. A study by the National Educational Longitudinal Study found that students who were involved in extracurricular activities had better grades than their peers who were not involved. Furthermore, the study found that students who participated in extracurricular activities were also more likely to graduate from high school.

Builds Social Skills

In addition to academic benefits, getting involved in high school activities can also help students build social skills. A study by the University of Michigan found that students who are involved in extracurricular activities have better social skills than their peers who are not involved. When students are involved in activities, they have the opportunity to interact with other students and adults. This can help them develop important social skills, such as communication and teamwork.

Develops Time-Management Skills

Another benefit of getting involved in high school activities is that it can help students develop time-management skills. A study by the University of California found that students who are involved in extracurricular activities are more likely to have better time-management skills than their peers who are not involved. When students are involved in activities, they learn how to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines.

Builds Leadership Skills

Finally, high school activities can also be a great way for students to build leadership skills. When students are involved in extracurricular activities, they have the opportunity to take on leadership roles and learn how to work effectively with others. These skills can be helpful in all areas of life, from landing a job to managing a team.

So there you have it, five reasons why getting involved in high school activities pays off. From reducing stress levels to improving grades, there are plenty of benefits to getting involved. Did you notice that I didn’t even mention the college application asks students to report how they are involved outside of school?  To me, it’s not nearly as important as these reasons.
